Motorcycle Maintenance Tips
Keeping your motorcycle in top condition is essential for safety, performance, and longevity. Follow these maintenance tips to keep your bike running smoothly.
1. Regular Oil Changes
Engine oil lubricates moving parts and prevents overheating. Check your owner's manual for the recommended oil change interval — typically every 3,000 to 5,000 kilometers. Always use the correct oil grade for your engine.
2. Check Tire Pressure and Condition
Proper tire pressure ensures better handling, fuel efficiency, and safety. Check tire pressure before every ride and inspect tires for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear. Replace tires when the tread depth is below the minimum safe level.
3. Inspect the Chain
A well-lubricated and properly tensioned chain is critical for smooth power delivery. Clean and lubricate the chain every 500–1,000 km and check tension regularly. Replace the chain if it shows signs of stretching or rust.
4. Brake Inspection
Check brake pads for wear and replace them when they're thin. Inspect brake fluid levels and look for any leaks in the brake lines. Never ride with worn brakes — it's a serious safety hazard.
5. Battery Maintenance
Keep the battery terminals clean and free of corrosion. If your bike sits unused for extended periods, use a trickle charger to maintain battery health. Replace the battery every 2–3 years or when it shows signs of weakness.
6. Air Filter Cleaning
A clean air filter ensures proper airflow to the engine. Check and clean or replace the air filter every 10,000 km or as recommended in your manual.
7. Coolant and Fluid Levels
For liquid-cooled bikes, check coolant levels regularly. Also inspect brake fluid, clutch fluid, and fork oil to ensure they're at the correct levels.
